The Black Ball at PGC

There are not many areas of the golf world where the colour of the golf ball can become as crucial as it can in Miniature Golf. You may see the occasional pink coloured ball in the LPGA, yet outside of women’s golf the ball is usually the traditional white that can be seen easier across most terrain.

The driving range here in Warriewood uses yellow balls for easy spotting against a backdrop of blues and greens. But with hundreds of balls of all different colours at Pittwater Mini Golf, we often come across a range of reasons for people picking a certain ball colour. Or perhaps avoiding one.

Some people have a lucky colour, for others it may be unlucky. Some have won with the red ball before, so select the same colour when they come back.

Somewhere in the storage facilities of Pittwater Golf Centre, sits one particular black ball. When picked, this ball can cause mayhem for the player, containing 2-4 times the bounce of a regular ball from the basket at Pittwater Golf Centre.

The ball is typically considered a disadvantage. However a hole-in-one is reportedly no less common than with any other ball due to the black ball’s ability to ricochet off obstacles in ways that other balls don’t. At times those with weak wrists have been known to benefit from the usually unwanted agility of the black ball.

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles players Jamie Lyon as well as Jake and Tom Trbojevic recently came for a hit at Pittwater Golf Centre however chose not use the black ball.

Below a customer has outlined their experience with the black ball in a video. We apologise for the quality of the footage, however feel that any experienced mini golfer will appreciate its value.
